shanghai restoration project: story of a city

Dave Liang, the mad mind behind the Shanghai Restoration Project, recently released his second full-length album, Story of a City. The album is a 15-track compilation inspired by the story of Shanghai at the turn of the 20th century, featuring a handful of artists you've probably never heard of, but they've worked with the likes of Moby, Kanye West, Wynton Marsalis, Erykah Badu, and Cirque du Soleil.

I've given the CD a couple of good spins now, and I'm really diggin' it. Like the first album, it blends traditional Chinese instruments with hip hop/electronic beats to create a really interesting, original sound. The project is actually the first album to be released under Dave's new partnership with the Indpendent Label Group, a division of Warner Music. It's available at iTunes, Amazon, and all the usual online distributors. Give it a try, listen to some samples here.
