rent/watch children of invention on youtube

It was only a matter of time, but this is probably a good thing for independent cinema (and indie cinephiles). This week, YouTube will begin testing an online movie rental service with independent films from the Sundance Film Festival: YouTube partners with Sundance for online movie rentals.

The service will be initially limited to five Sundance titles from 2009 and 2010, as well as a small collection of videos from partners in industries such as health and education, and will be available to users through the end of the month.

Among YouTube's initial feature film offerings: Tze Chun's Children of Invention, which premiered at Sundance last year. If you weren't able to catch it on the festival circuit, you'll soon be able to screen directly on your computer. More here: YouTube to sell pay-per-view films.
