the 'proud racist'

Meet Bob Kellar. At a recent rally against illegal immigration, the Santa Clarita, California city councilman described himself as "a proud racist" and says he has no regrets over the remark: Calif. city councilman says he's 'proud racist.'

Kellar made the comment at a rally a couple of weeks ago, in the largely white and conservative community of Santa Clarita, which has seen a large influx of Hispanic immigrants. His videotaped remarks were posted on YouTube and caused an uproar. Here's what he said:
At the rally, Kellar recalled that Theodore Roosevelt once said the United States had room for only one flag and for one language — English. He said he mentioned the former president's comment at a City Council meeting several years ago.

"The only thing I heard back from a couple of people was, 'Bob, you sound like a racist,'" Kellar told the rally. "I said, 'That's good. If that's what you think I am because I happen to believe in America, then I'm a proud racist. You're darn right I am.'"
That's right, Bob. Be all that you can be. What's disappointing is that last week, Kellar released a statement explaining that his remarks were taken out of context. That sucks. If you're going to say that you're not just a racist, but a proud racist, own it. Embrace it. Be it. Don't try to explain it away -- be the proud racist you claim to be! Get it out in the open. That's racist!
