Open City: Blogging Urban Change
Organizing Fellows Needed

The Asian American Writers' Workshop (AAWW) seeks 3-5 Organizing Fellows for the period from July 2010-July 2011 for a community-based arts project called Open City. In this innovative, WPA-inspired writing fellowship, commissioned writers (called “Organizing Fellows”) will work with community groups in Manhattan's Chinatown/Lower East Side (LES), Flushing, Queens, and Sunset Park, Brooklyn to collect stories, offer commentary about gentrification, and produce new creative work around these themes. Combining an artists fellowship program and community oral history project with an interdisciplinary neighborhood blog, Open City seeks nurture emerging writers looking to engage with the community and document the multifaceted experiences and complex role of Asian Americans in gentrification processes in New York City.
Sounds like a really cool project, and a great opportunity for community-minded writers. For more information about the fellowship, including qualifications, responsibilities and how to apply, go to the Asian American Writers' Workshop here.
