national training on translated federal voter registration forms

Tomorrow, June 15, the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund will be hosting a national training webinar on how to use the translated voter registration form to register new limited English proficient voters.

Earlier this year, the U.S. Election Assistance Commission announced the availability of federal voter registration forms in five Asian languages - Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Tagalog and Vietnamese. Here are some details on Tuesday's online voter registration training:

According to the census, there are an estimated 15 million Asian Americans. Many Asian Americans aren't registered to vote, due to language barriers. Under the federal Voting Rights Act, only 16 states are mandated to provide translated voter registration forms and bilingual ballots in Asian languages. However, the new translated forms are available to voters across the nation.
