3d porno flick breaks hong kong box office record

Suck it, Avatar. Grossing HK 2.63 million on its opening day in Hong Kong, James Cameron's massive sci-fi action film held the single day box office record... until last week, when the record fell to a new film: 3D Sex and Zen: Extreme Ecstasy. Yes, it is what you think. Here's the (SFW) trailer:

Man, that looks bad. But I guess the godawful trailer didn't scare away audiences. The softcore porno earned HK$2.78 million on its opening day on just 73 screens: 3-D Erotic Comedy Shakes Up Hong Kong Box Office.
"Sex and Zen" — a remake of a 1991 Hong Kong movie by the same name — features full nudity and camouflaged lovemaking scenes but does not show actual sexual intercourse, as is common in pornographic films. The movie, which stars Japanese porn stars Hara Saori and Suo Yukiko and Hong Kong actress Vonnie Liu, tells the story of a sexually frustrated scholar in ancient China who loses himself in the harem of a duke he befriends.

The film brought in HK$2.78 million ($360,000) on its opening day last Thursday, eclipsing the previous first-day record set by James Cameron's 2009 3-D sci-fi epic "Avatar," which earned HK$2.63 million ($340,000) on its first day.
If there's one thing that was going to take down those 3D naked blue people, I guess it was going to be 3D naked Asian people. Congratulations, Sex and Zen. You did it! A sequel is already apparently in the works.

So... the question is, when will this movie make it to the United States? More here: '3D Sex & Zen' Beats Out 'Avatar' for One-Day Hong Kong Record.

UPDATE: For those who are eagerly anticipating the release of this movie stateside, you'll be happy to know that China Lion Film has picked up 3D Sex and Zen: Extreme Ecstasy for North American distribution. No release date has been set yet: The 3D Porn Film That Beat 'Avatar' Gets North American Distribution.
