Michelle Obama and Michelle Phan Go To Japan

Popular beauty guru gives support to the First Lady's "Let Girls Learn" education initiative.

First Lady Michelle Obama is currently on a five-day trip to Asia to promote her new global education initiative, and she brought along none other than beauty vlogger Michelle Phan to give her hand.

YouTube Star Michelle Phan Joins First Lady Michelle Obama In Tokyo

The popular entrepreneur and YouTube celebrity joined Mrs. Obama in Tokyo to provide support and spread awareness for the "Let Girls Learn" campaign, which aims to get more girls in school around the world. Phan posed questions to the First Lady submitted by her followers through Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

The Let Girls Learn initiative, launched by the Obama administration earlier this month, aims to expand education access for young women worlwide. Sixty-two million girls -- half of whom are adolescent -- are not in school. According to the White House, these girls have diminished economic opportunities and are more vulnerable to HIV/AIDS, early and forced marriage, and other forms of violence. Let Girls Learn is an investment to help girls in developing countries go to school and stay in school.

All things considered, Michelle Phan is a pretty darn awesome -- and incredibly savvy -- choice for Mrs. Obama to bring along on this trip. Phan, who has been on YouTube since 2006 and has more than 7.5 million subscribers to her YouTube channel, has carved out a massive following for her influential personal brand.

Consider everything she represents, as Yahoo! Style points out, "a 27-year-old beauty guru gives Michelle Obama, the First Lady of the United States of America, more direct access to women and girls." Smart.
