Angry Reader of the Week: Ryan Miyamoto

"I am also all about hummus. I love hummus."

Hey, folks! It's time again to meet the Angry Reader of the Week, spotlighting you, the very special readers of this website. Over the years, I've been able to connect with a lot of cool folks, and this is a way of showing some appreciation and attention to the people who help make this blog what it is. This week's Angry Reader is Ryan Miyamoto.

Who are you?

I am Ryan Miyamoto.

What are you?

I am a director of photography and surfer born and raised in Hawaii. I am also an awkward person.

Where are you?

I am currently in New York City getting ready for the theatrical world premiere of Twinsters, a documentary I shot and co-directed with Samantha Futerman. The film follows the story of Samantha and Anaïs Bordier, two strangers who discovered they were potential twin sisters separated at birth. All because of a YouTube video. So if you are in New York when you read this, we are at the AMC Theatres in Times Square all week! Go see it!

Where are you from?

I am from the beautiful Kuli`ou`ou Valley on the island of Oahu.

What do you do?

I am a director of photography for documentaries, commercials, and narrative film. I am also an avid surfer.

What are you all about?

I am all about telling Hawaiian stories, and showcasing the talent that Hawaii has to offer. I am also all about hummus. I love hummus.

What makes you angry?

One thing that makes me angry is the inauthentic portrayal of Hawaiian culture. Movies, advertisements, and television have not accurately depicted the Hawaiian people as they truly were/are. As a filmmaker, I want to change the way the world sees Hawaiian people and culture so we are not presented as uneducated and simple-minded people. I also want to make sure everything I ever film or create is as historically accurate as possible. I am currently working on a film called Ho'omau. The Kickstarter videos can be seen here. I hope this movie will be one of many emerging Hawaiian stories!
