Help raise up the next generation of APA media-makers

Make a donation and become a member of Visual Communications #GivingTuesday

If you haven't heard, today has been designated #GivingTuesday, a day to inspire philanthropy and charitable giving as you recover from your post-Black Friday blues. There are dozens upon dozens of Asian American causes worthy of your altruism, but today I'd like to highlight an organization I am directly involved with.

Visual Communications is the premier nonprofit organization dedicated to the honest and accurate portrayals of Asian Pacific American peoples, communities and heritage through the media arts. Full disclosure: I proudly serve as a member of Visual Communication's Board of Directors.

If you're looking for a worthy cause to support, please consider Visual Communications.

Founded in 1970, and based in Little Tokyo, Los Angeles, VC's mission is to promote intercultural understanding through the creation, presentation, preservation and support of media works by and about Asian Pacific Americans. VC was created with the understanding that media and the arts are important vehicles to organize and empower communities, build connections between generations, challenge perspectives, and create an environment for critical thinking necessary to build a more just and humane society.

Visual Communications is about connecting community through the power of media arts, helping APA media-makers create and present their stories through year-round workshops and exhibitions, including our annual flagship event, the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival, as well as the Armed With a Camera Fellowship for up-and-coming media artists and the Digital Histories initiative for seniors.

As the organization celebrates its 45th year, would you consider partnering with us by making a donation, becoming a member of Visual Communications or renewing your current membership? Your generous support, however small or large, will help raise up the next generation of AAPI media-makers.

As a commitment to the organization, our mission and our community, VC's Board of Directors will be matching each dollar raised during the holiday season. 100% of your contribution to the organization is tax-deductible.

Help make sure that AAPI stories continue to be valued, shared, and preserved. To learn more about Visual Communications, and to make a donation, visit vconline.org.
