Help make Big Phony's next album

Singer/songwriter Bobby Choy is raising funds for his sixth full-length album.

My friend Bobby Choy, who makes amazing music as singer/songwriter Big Phony, is putting the call out for help to raise funds through Kickstarter to record his next full-length album.

These days, Bobby's been kicking it in Korea and has written more than 70 songs since his last release. While nearly all of Bobby's stuff has had that lo-fi recorded-in-his-bedroom ultra-indie hustle quality, he's still released some fantastic tunes. (If you haven't heard his 2014 albums Bobby or Long Live the Lie, you gotta.)

But for his sixth album, Big Phony is aiming to get into a legit studio and record on real hi-fi gear. With the guidance of fellow singer/songwriter Goh Nakamura, he's come up with a reasonable plan and a modest budget to make it happen -- with our assistance, of course.

Bobby explains more in this video:

The goal is to raise $12,000 by February 4. The budget, which is bare minimum and largely dependent on calling in some favors, will go towards renting the studio, hiring a producer, engineer, studio musicians, mastering, graphic design, producing CDs, and all of the other costs that go into making an album.

Bobby plans to record the album at a studio in Stinson Beach, California. Originally, since he currently lives in Seoul, he factored the cost of the flight back to the U.S. into his budget. But upon hearing about the project, Bobby's mom went ahead and sent him the funds to purchase the flight. It's covered. Cool mom!
