Angry Reader of the Week: Kathy Khang

"I went from being the meanest mommy in the whole wide world to the family ATM and short-order cook."

Hello! Internet friends, it is time again to meet the Angry Reader of the Week, spotlighting you, the very special readers of this website. Over the years, I've been able to connect with a lot of cool folks, and this is a way of showing some appreciation and attention to the people who help make this blog what it is. This week's Angry Reader is Kathy Khang.

Who are you?

Well, that depends on who's asking. I'm Kathy. Kathy Khang. KyoungAh. Mom. Honey.

What are you?

I went from being the meanest mommy in the whole wide world to the family ATM and short-order cook. I am a writer, speaker, coffee drinker. Wife of one. Mother of three. I am religious and spiritual. I pray and swear. Oh, and I'm Korean American.

Where are you?

I'm in my home office in the suburbs of Chicago.

Where are you from?

It's hilarious you ask this question because, well, you know. I was born in Seoul. Immigrated to the U.S. as a baby and settled in Chicago. My Chicago roots show when I order a hot dog, crave pizza (Lou Malnati's buttercrust deep dish is really the only real pizza), or take friends to the Sears Tower.

What do you do?

That depends, too, on who's asking. I am, with the help of my husband, raising three amazing humans. I have a day job with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship/USA, and I do some blogging, freelance writing and editing, and hell-raising. I also fantasize about becoming a yoga instructor/massage therapist/counselor/spiritual director/writer. Apparently I'm having a mid-life crisis.

What are you all about?

I'm about making sure my actions and my words at home with my family and then out in the world are loving, challenging, honest, inviting and reflect Jesus. Yeah, I'm one of "those" people who also is about destroying the Model Minority Myth garbage as well as the stereotypes evangelical Christians have often lived into. I'm about an integrated, intersectional life that embraces and challenges my faith, which can be a tricky dance as a Korean American heterosexual married woman who is still learning, makes lots of mistakes, loves Jesus but also has some serious issues with the Church.

What makes you angry?

Yearbook photos of a rapist. How Islamaphobia has created the new category of "American-born citizen". That the 143 days until the general election is not a guarantee I will not have to read about Mr. Orange.
