Angry Reader of the Week: Snehal Desai

"Snehal or Sne to the nice people in my life. Sean to the Starbucks barista."

Hello, internet friends. It is time, once again, to meet the Angry Reader of the Week, spotlighting you, the very special readers of this website. Over the years, I've been able to connect with a lot of cool folks, and this is a way of showing some appreciation and attention to the people who help make this blog what it is. This week's Angry Reader is Snehal Desai.

Who are you?

Snehal or Sne to the nice people in my life. Sean to the Starbucks barista.

What are you?

I am a first generation Indian-American. An advocate for artists. A theater director, writer, eclectic music listener, coffee shop aficionado, likes to buy the paperback reader. A night owl.

Where are you?

In line for a matcha latte, growing my beard while tight rolling my jeans and typing on my phone. That is to say a thorough hipster silverlakian fellow. I am in my apt at Silverlake enjoying a beautiful LA evening with my windows open with a rooster crowing outside at midnight.

Where are you from?

I am from a small town in eastern Pennsylvania originally and have moved up and down the east coast from Atlanta to New Haven to NYC.

What do you do?

I am the Artistic Director of East West Players.

What are you all about?

Harnessing the power of the arts and storytelling to enrich our lives, our world views, the level of discourse in the world and our communities. Empowering individuals so as to not fear change. Laughter. Humor. Sarcasm. One word sentences. Visibility. Diversity. The importance for us to bear witness and hear the stories and struggles of others. TV Binge watching. Cupcake red velvet wine. Gin and tonic. Community. That I think above all else. Providing a place of community and support to those who have felt isolated and outcast, who dont feel like they have ever belonged. Pride in East West Players for being that spot for so long and ensuring it continues.

What makes you angry?

Top on my list has to be the people who order boba and then drink the drink and leave a big pile of boba. I just don't get it. That's the BEST part! Don't get boba in your milk tea if you're not going to eat it.

I mean after that its all icing on the cake. Actually speaking of that, those icing flowers on cake why are they soo bad. No, in all seriousness.

People who can't take a moment to breathe and listen. To take in someone else's perspective and point of view. Can't get out of their mindset for one second to view the world from someone else's perspective. People who dismiss the value of arts and artists in our society to effect social change, create dialogue around an issue. People who actively act/vote against their own best interests because they dont want anyone else to feel empowered. Because they fear change.

People who when someone with a non-traditional name introduces themselves, hears the name, nod and then quickly turn away, never to make eye contact with you again.

People who say something offensive and know it and then look at you and say, "You know what I mean. I don't really mean it." If you say it you have thought it which means there is something there.

My own impatience.
