"I'm just trying to make the world not trash."

Hey, everybody! It is time, once again, to meet the Angry Reader of the Week, spotlighting you, the very special readers of this website. Over the years, I've been able to connect with a lot of cool folks, and this is a way of showing some appreciation and attention to the people who help make this blog what it is. This week's Angry Reader is Dino-Ray Ramos.

Who are you?

Dino-Ray Ramos... Miss Ramos if you're nasty.

What are you?

Filipino-American, aspiring InstaTHOT or, if you prefer, "That bitch at Deadline."

Where are you?

Sunny and dry Los Angeles, CA in the hustling bustling gentrified area of Miracle Mile.

Where are you from?

I'm a southern boy that was born in San Antonio, Texas to immigrant parents, who are both born and raised in Ilocos Norte near Laoag. My dad joined the American military which brought he and my bad-ass mom here stateside. Hopped around the country and then ended up in Texas. I went to a high school that beat the football team which Friday Night Lights was based and was in drumline and choir whilst there (ask for proof and I will send it to you whether you like it or not). I went to Texas Tech for a year before finishing my college career at Texas A&M where I studied Journalism, was the Filipino Student Association president for two consecutive terms and often wore Jncos and colored my hair every week. I think I had an affinity for conservative, mostly white schools. I moved the San Francisco Bay Area, lived in the city for about 10 years before moving to L.A. where I came to shake things up and find the perfect breakfast burrito.

What do you do?

I'm an editor and reporter at Deadline Hollywood where I host the New Hollywood Podcast, a podcast that champions people of color, LGBTQ folks, women and members of other underrepresented communities in Hollywood. I report on TV and film with a focus on diversity, inclusion and representation. I go to industry events and premieres just for the free food. I'm just trying to make the world not trash.

What are you all about?

Good question. Most of the time, I am out and about wondering what my next meal is going to be or how many hours of sleep I am going to get that night. I'm a non-drinking, pescatarian Pinoy that advocates for cannabis. Other than that, I try my best to give undying love and support for Asian Americans as well as the Black, Latinx, Indigenous, queer, disabled communities and other marginalized people. Like Ava DuVernay says, "'If your dream only includes you, it's too small." Basically, in my work and life, I try my best to give shine to those who aren't white, cisgender, hetero, able-bodied men. It's not that all white men are bad and evil, it's just that a lot of them need to do better -- A LOT BETTER. I'm all about Marvel movies, Star Wars, Kelly Clarkson, Beyonce, RuPaul's Drag Race, genre film, trying to understand WTF Watchmen is about, SXSW, Comic-Con and anything that is nerdy and/or subverts and challenges the norm in creative and thoughtful ways. But don't get it twisted -- I can be a basic bitch. I'll cry at episodes of This Is Us or watch any reality singing or dancing competition. I will also karaoke all the livelong day. I mean, I'm Filipino so it's required. Also, I am thinking about getting a dog... but then I remember that I can barely take care of a houseplant.

What makes you angry?

Ignorance. Hate. Dumb-ass people. Work meetings that could have been an email. People who hit "reply all" to emails. No flavor in food. The patriarchy. The gay-triarchy. People who block two lanes because they decided to make a left turn at the last minute. L.A. traffic. All traffic. Beckys with good hair. Permit Patties. The news. Fox News. Working the red carpet. People at the gym who don't wipe down the machines after using them. Slow internet speeds. Beyonce haters. No cell phone service. Twitter trolls. Impatience. Over-policing. Self-indulgence. Authority. Abuse of authority. Abuse in general. False idols. Hollow ambition. Fake people. Insensitivity. Lack of empathy. The term "influencer." People who aren't aware of their surroundings. People with no home training. The fact that I have to buy a new iPhone every couple of years. Technology. People who feel the need to invent robots that will one day take over the world and/or kill us. Delayed flights. Bad service. People who don't tip at least 18%. Selfish people. Q&A moderators who make the conversation about themselves. Privilege. White privilege. People who don't realize they have privilege. Racism. Prejudice. Intolerance. And, finally mayonnaise.
