break the silence: nyc asian american student conference

This weekend in New York... Discover. Inspire. Empower. You are invited to the 1st Annual NYC Asian American Student Conference. New York University and Columbia University present "Break the Silence," a free all-day conference "designed to inspire young minds to learn, grow, and lead their own ways to success through the exploration of issues in race and identity, as well as empower young Asian Americans into becoming proactive in issues within the Asian American community in New York and beyond." Saturday, April 14th, 9:30am-10:00pm at NYU's Tisch Hall. The conference includes a diverse array of workshops on race, identity, social justice and activism, and a great schedule of speakers, including a keynote address from my pal Carmen Van Kerckhove of New Demographic. The event will end with a concert featuring Vudoo Soul, the Stone Forest Ensemble, a preview of Rich Kiamco's upcoming performance Unaccessorized, and a sneak preview of Michael Kang's film West 32nd. Sounds like a solid event all around. Did I mention it's free? For more information about the conference, go here.
