NPR's
Weekend Edition recently profiled Filipino jazz vocalist Charmaine Clamor, whose most recent CD
Flippin' Out introduces a hybrid sound, which she calls "jazzipino":
Charmaine Clamor's 'Jazzipino' Swing. She melds traditional Filipino melodies, languages and instruments with the soul and swing of American jazz. I don't understand a word of Tagalog, but I'm a jazz fan, and her music, as well as some of the ideology behind it, is pretty interesting.
