There is currently a nationwide, grassroots campaign underway to convince to the U.S. Postal Service to issue a commemorative stamp to honor the Japanese Americans who served during World War II: Nisei World War II Stamp Campaign. Everybody knows that they have an amazing story of bravery, courage and sacrifice. The 100th/442nd Regimental Combat Team is one of the most decorated and acclaimed units in American history. A postage stamp may seem like a small gesture, but it would be an emblematic way to honor these veterans and keep their story alive.
The Postal Service has notified the campaign that they will formally begin reviewing the stamp proposal at their advisory meeting on January 24, 2008. The stamp selection process takes about three years, and the Nisei proposal would be up for a possible 2010 stamp at the soonest.
