super tuesday: the aftermath

All day, been reading which candidate won what, how they won it, who voted for them, and how Asian Americans fit into all the madness... particularly the Democratic race in the key state of California. The way it breaks down, Senator Obama carried white voters in the Golden State because of overwhelming support among white men. White women, as in other states, more often supported Senator Clinton. Black voters overwhelmingly favored Obama, but Asian American voters, whose numbers are comparable to blacks, went overwhelmingly for Clinton. The deciding factor seems to have been Latino voters, who make up roughly 30 percent of California's Democratic vote, and chose Clinton by a two-to-one margin. Here's a full breakdown of the Democratic vote in California.

When all was said and done, among Asian Americans, who make up 8% of Democrats in California, Clinton received 75 percent of the vote compared to Obama's 25 percent. Here's a story on the influence of the Asian American vote: Overlooked Asian voters boost Clinton. Really. It's worth noting how mainstream media has largely ignored the influence of Asian American voters in this race up to now. Most of the coverage I watched on Tuesday night barely even mentioned us, even though Asian voters actually outnumber Black voters in California. What are we, invisible? Not anymore, so you better check it.

Oh, it's on. And it's obviously going to be one hell of a race. On to Washington, Kansas, Louisiana, DC, Maryland, Virginia... View the complete primary calendar here.
