lost: big episode for the kwons
Lost fans, hasn't the show been absolutely awesome this season? Talk about raising the stakes and taking the show in the right direction. Determining an end to the show was probably the best decision the producers could have made, because it makes every story beat count. Anyway, tonight's episode is reportedly a Jin/Sun-centric story. As devoted viewers know, this season (or rather, last season's finale) introduced the "flash-forward," where we see the characters' lives off the island in an unspecified future time. So, will we see our favorite Korean couple in the future? Maybe. Here's a recent article on Yunjin Kim from USA Today: Yunjin Kim, a find on 'Lost'.
If you're not a regular viewer of the show, none of this will mean much to you. But whatever. Tonight's episode has been hyped for several reasons: A) The remaining members of the Oceanic 6the six highly-publicized passengers who survived the crash and made it back to civilizationwill be revealed. B) An original cast member apparently dies. C) Ben's "man on the freighter" will be revealed. Lots of good stuff there, and it looks like it'll be a pretty big episode.
Barring any mind-bending twists, which is no doubt a possibility, here's what I think will happen. I have no special inside knowledge; this is all just speculation. Considering the character focus of tonight's episode, I'm going to assume that Sun and/or Jin are the remaining Oceanic 6. But I'm guessing whatever happens in the future is going to throw us for a major loop. The character who dies? I fear it's a strong possibility that it'll be Jin or Sun. This has always been my fear since the beginning of the show, when the death watch began and it became clear that this was the kind of show where no one was safe. Now here's the twist: Jin or Sun will die in the flash-forward. This could mean that Daniel Dae Kim or Yunjin Kim aren't actually off the show. It just means the end of their character... in the future. As for Ben's man on the boat, I think it's pretty obvious that it's Michael.
Of course, like I said, this is all speculation, and I could be totally wrong. I guess we'll see tonight. I'm taping the episode, since I'll be attending SFIAFF's Opening Night. Please, do not tell me what happens.
UPDATE: Having watched the episode now, it looks like I was right about a few things... but I still have no idea what is going on. Some new things revealed, and a dozen more questions. But hey, that's how I pretty much feel after every episode, and it's still pretty damn entertaining. Another great episode for Daniel Dae Kim and Yunjin Kim.
