the ramen girl trailer

Lots of folks talking about The Ramen Girl trailer today. It was posted on YouTube a couple of months ago, but this ramen blog recently posted something about the trailer and got the ball rolling. And boy, the movie looks like a whole lotta fun!

Brittany Murphy stars as an American girl stranded in Japan after her boyfriend dumps her. She reinvents herself by learning how to make ramen under the tutelage of a master chef. Expect lots of crazy culture clashes and wacky white-girl-in-Asia antics. Comic gold!

The movie first registered on our radar a couple of years ago, before the project started filming, when it was announced that Murphy had signed onto the project. I was skeptical back then, but after watching this trailer I have little doubt—this movie sucks ass. It looks baaaaad. Someone described it to me as an awful, weird cross between Tampopo, Lost in Translation and The Last Samurai. And that's not a good thing.

Someone I know saw it at one of the film markets, and apparently it's pretty awful. The project was filmed over two years ago, but I'm not sure if the movie's been picked up by a theatrical distributor, or if it'll ever see the light of day. Hopefully it'll end up being dumped to DVD, if at all. Of course, maybe this is your thing...
