Roy Pearson, the loser behind the infamous $54 million lawsuit against a D.C. dry cleaner over a missing pair of pants, refuses to let it go and his heading back to court. A three-judge appellate court panel has agreed to hear an appeal of this idiotic, frivolous case next month: $54 Million 'Pants' Lawsuit Headed Back to Court.
If you're unfamiliar with the case, Pearson sued the Chung family, owners of Custom Cleaners, for $67 million in 2005 after it misplaced a pair of his pants. Pearson demanded the family pay $1,000, the cost of the entire suit. The family refused initially, but eventually offered him $12,000 to settle the case. Pearson refused that, but later reduced the amount of his lawsuit to $54 million.
This had to be the most ridiculous lawsuit his history of America, with Pearson ultimately losing the case. No judge in their right mind was going to award 54 million freaking dollars for a lousy pair of trousers. And yet here they are again, heading back to court.
Over three years after Pearson filed the original lawsuit in June 2005, the DC Court of Appeals has set a date for Mr. Pearson's appeal to be orally argued by the parties before the DC Court of Appeals, on October 22, 2008 at 9:30am. If Pearson wins the appeal, the case will likely be re-tried by the DC Superior Court. Let's hope that doesn't happen.
