This is a really sad, tragic story out of Michigan... Over the weekend in Farmington, 35-year-old David Shu-Kin Kwok was killed in a freak accident when he was trapped under his moving minivan while trying to save his pregnant wife: Farmington Hills man killed trying to save wife.
On Saturday morning, Kwok pulled his minivan up to the book return at the Farmington Community Library so his wife, Erika Kwok, could deposit books. On her way back to the van, she fell. He rushed out of the van and ran around the front of it to help her. In a panic, he forgot to put it in park.
He braced himself against the front of the van to stop it from rolling over his wife, but got trapped underneath instead. A rear wheel rolled over his wife, who is about seven months pregnant. A bystander entered the van, placed it in park and shut off the engine.
David Kwok was pronounced dead at the hospital. Erika Kwok was in stable but serious condition. Their 21-month-old daughter, who was in the backseat, wasn't hurt. More here: Man dies while trying to rescue pregnant wife.
Like I said, it was a crazy freak accident, and unbelievably tragic. I heard about this the other day, then realized later that David Kwok was actually the brother of one of my friends. I didn't know him, but I know he was loved. My thoughts and prayers go out to his wife and his family.
UPDATE: A memorial fund has been set up to support David Kwok's family during this difficult time. For more information, go to the David Kwok Memorial website here.
