It was reported last month that Judy Chu, chairwoman of California's Board of Equalization, intended to run for the congressional seat left vacant by Hilda Solis, who was recently named as Barack Obama's secretary of labor.
I recently saw over on the AAA-Fund Blog that last week, Chu's main opponent for the seat, State Senator Gloria Romero, announced that she would not run for Congress: Romero drops out of Congress race. More here: Gloria Romero will not seek congressional seat.
According to AAA-Fund, this further clears the path for Chu, who will run against State Senator Gil Cedillo for the seat, but appears to have more support throughout the community. If elected, Chu will become the first Asian American female to represent Southern California in Congress.
