angry reader of the week: chester poon
It's time to meet another Angry Reader of the Week, spotlighting you, the very special readers of this website. Over the years, I've been able to connect with a lot of cool folks, and this is a way of showing some appreciation and attention to the people who help make this blog what it is. This week's reader is personal trainer/actor/fight choreographer Chester Poon.
Who are you?
Chester Poon. I'm a fighter, a lover, and if I say more, I might sound like a cliche.
What are you?
I am a freelance personal trainer, actor, and an award-winning fight choreographer.
Where are you?
NYC: the middle of enemy territory. Go Red Sox!!
Where are you from?
I'm originally from a small town outside of Springfield, MA called Ludlow: a white working class town filled with Portuguese immigrants. I still curse in Portuguese to this day.
What do you do?
As a trainer, I physically break people down for their enjoyment in their journey towards a more aesthetically pleasing and healthier body. That's what I do to pay the bills. As a fight choreographer, I basically play fight. Most people have no idea how much fun that is as an adult. As an actor, I put myself through psychological turmoil for the purposes of an audience's entertainment. It's actually a LOT of fun!
What are you all about?
Right now, I'm all about my upcoming off-off broadway production of Romeo and Juliet! All my spare time lately is pretty much living in it. I've been cast as Romeo. Juliet is Latina. When does that ever happen in portraying an interracial relationship in entertainment?!?! I'm psyched!
What makes you angry?
Old, unoriginal, played out jokes about Asian people, racism, inequality, casting notices from people that contact me personally to play really really bad stereotypes, ignorance and people who choose to remain ignorant, and very very small dogs.
