imagined futures conference


Okay, if you're in the Los Angeles, you might be interested in marking your calendar for this cool event happening next month for artistically-inclined folks...

The Aratani Endowed Chair, UCLA, and JANM present Imagined Futures, a special one day free conference for aspiring and up-and-coming APA artists, on Saturday May 2 at the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles' Little Tokyo. The basics:

The conference will feature two-hour workshops on a variety of topics, including filmmaking, anime/comics, blogs/new media, spoken word/hip hop, fiction, and the art and business of clothing, led by folks who are creating, producing and working in these fields.

Guest speakers/facilitators will include actor George Takei of Star Trek fame; Eric Nakamura, publisher of Giant Robot; filmmaker Quentin Lee; Jeff Yang and Parry shen, the co-editors of Secret Identities; hip hop artist Shin-B; novelist Naomi Hirahara; and Ryan Suda of clothing company Blacklava. I'll also be there to lead the workshop on blogs/new media.
