angry reader of the week: ada tseng
The Angry Reader of the Week is back! We took a bit of a hiatus last month make room for the "30 Under 30," but it's time to start it up again. The Angry Reader spotlights you, the very special readers of this website. Over the years, I've been able to connect with a lot of cool folks, and this is a way of showing some appreciation and attention to the people who help make this blog what it is. This week's reader is Ada Tseng, managing editor of Asia Pacific Arts...
Who are you?
My name is Ada Tseng.
What are you?
I am a fan of Phil Yu, because he works very hard. I am also a Virgo, and my igoogle horoscope tells me to explore the irrational side of myself today.
Where are you?
Why, where are you?
Where are you from?
San Jose, CA, where the fun never stops.
What do you do?
I am the managing editor of Asia Pacific Arts, an online magazine that covers Asian and Asian American arts and entertainment. We specialize in arts criticism and in-depth interviews with artists from all over the world, covering everything from film, music, art, theater, to literature.
Because we're based at a university, we also run an undergraduate internship program where we teach journalism skills to aspiring reporters, while providing them with a basic foundation of Asian film history and Asian American issues. Since we're housed in Los Angeles, we're in the perfect position to mingle with up-and-coming Asian American talent, as well as catch Asian filmmakers, writers, and artists while they are visiting the US. It's a good place to be, especially nowadays when the borders between "Asian" and "Asian American" are collapsing and it's important to have informed cultural translators who can intelligently document the evolving trends of the entertainment industry.
In addition to writing articles and editing stories written by people who are much cooler than I am, I also have fun selecting pictures for each article. And I act as a cheerleader for our multimedia team, who make videos that still make me laugh years later. My all-time favorite: Asian Excellence Awards 2007. What an excellent sport, that Kenny G.
What are you all about?
Love. Curiosity. Guacamole. Storytelling. And magical shaved ice from Taipei's Shilin Night Market.
What makes you angry?
The Bank of America logo's shift from classy silver to ugly bright red. Why would you put red on top of red?
Poodles. Especially the ridiculously large ones and the unnecessarily furry ones.
