As you probably know, actor David Carradine was found dead in his hotel in Bangkok this week. Authorities are now saying his death might not have been suicide: Thai Police: Carradine Death May Be Accidental. Yikes.
Here's an interesting piece in the Seattle P-I Reader Blog by professional magician Maritess Zurbano, reflecting on the implications of Carradine's career: Goodbye Ol' Round Eyes. She's got no love for the stereotypes he helped perpetuate. Not much love over at Racialicious either: David Carradine's Legacy of Shame.
While I certainly feel the sense of loss over the embarrassing, perhaps-not-quite-suicide death of a fellow human being, like Maritess, I can't express much fondness for his acting career -- one that hangs largely on the fake, yellowface portrayal of an Asian kung fu hero. Sorry, I just never got over that.
