"these women are innocent"

Here's White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs answering questions yesterday about what's going on with imprisoned reporters Euna Lee and Laura Ling, and what steps the United States is taking in response to recent developments: These Woman (Laura Ling & Euna Lee) are Innocent & Should be Released: Robert Gibbs.

He plays it cool. But to me, it's far too much talk about "the situation with North Korea," and not enough specifics on "what we are doing to get Laura and Euna back." I know there's got to be action happening behind the scenes, and it certainly wouldn't be characteristic of the State Department to be transparent... but the lack of news is just frustrating, isn't it?

Oh, lots of talk about getting them back: U.S. works to release journalists Laura Ling, Euna Lee, who face 12 years in North Korea labor camp. New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson seems to be the guy everyone is talking about to be envoy to get them back... California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger also chimed in: Gov. Schwarzenegger Calls for Release of Laura Ling, Euna Lee.

Meanwhile, their families wait in worry. My guess is, they could probably care less about the "high-stakes poker game" between the United States and North Korea, and simply wish to see the safe return of their loved ones: Families plead for release of journalists imprisoned in North Korea.
