5-year-old boy accidentally run over by teacher

Heard about this terribly tragic news out of Cupertino, California... A 5-year-old boy was killed last month after a teacher at his Chinese school accidentally ran over him with her car: 5-year-old Cupertino boy accidentally run over by teacher at day care.

Nelson Wei was one of the students who attend the after-school program at Elite Chinese School. One of the school's teachers had picked up Nelson and three other children from their elementary school and dropped them off at the Elite school.

When she arrived in the parking lot, she dropped off three of the boys and the fourth waited in the car to be driven home. Somehow, while Nelson was getting around the car, the vehicle began moving forward on him. It's unknown if he was bending down to pick up something, walking around, or just standing, but it knocked him down and ran him over.

The car moved about 40 to 50 feet, before stopping when the kids started yelling at the driver, "Hey, there's someone under the car." When she got out of the car, she saw Nelson on the ground, unconscious. He died about an hour later at the hospital.

Making the story worse, the school apparently wasn't licensed by the state. Last month, Elite Chinese School was cited for unlicensed operation by the Community Care Licensing Division of the State Department of Social Services, and agreed to voluntarily close: Cupertino day care where 5-year-old boy run over was not licensed.
