brown bag lunch talk with professor konrad ng

If you're in the D.C. area, check out this Brown Bag Lunch talk happening this week with Professor Konrad Ng (aka "Mister to the Sister"), presented by the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Program: New Media and New Asian American Cultural and Political Engagement. He'll be talking about his research in grassroots Asian American media expressions. Read on for details:
Brown Bag Lunch
with Professor Konrad Ng, PhD, Smithsonian APA Program Visiting Scholar
Assistant Professor, University of Hawai‘i Academy for Creative Media

Come meet Dr. Konrad Ng, assistant professor at the University of Hawai‘i Academy of Creative Media, who has been in residence with us at the APA Program since August. We figured since he’s only here for a limited time, we should share his insightful knowledge with everyone else, too… now is your chance to ask directly about his research!

What are the ways in which American life has been transformed by new media? What forms of political and cultural presence are enabled by platforms such as YouTube? Dr. Ng explores the grassroots Asian America new media expressions that emerged during the recent presidential campaign and examines how new media platforms such as YouTube became the terrain for confronting stereotypes and putting the Asian American experience at the center of American life.

Time:
Wednesday, December 16, 2009
12 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Location:
Presidential Suite, National Museum of American History
14th Street and Constitution Avenue, NW
Washington, DC

Metro:
Smithsonian or Federal Triangle
(Blue and Orange Lines)

Space is limited. Please make reservations as soon as possible by calling the APA Program office at 202.633.2692.
Sounds like it's going to be a really interesting talk, on a topic I'm pretty interested in. If I was in D.C. this Wednesday, I'd go for sure. For more information about the event, visit the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Program website here.
