Thank you to everyone who's been sending me articles and links about the proposed Koreatown reality show -- a 'Jersey Shore' for Asians,' they're calling it -- that's reportedly in the works. Dude, I'm well aware of it. Here's the casting call I posted a couple of weeks back. Not sure why the news is suddenly all over the place.
Since then, I've learned that the production is indeed legit and in the works, and yes, actor-model Tyrese Gibson's company is producing it. They even already have a potential cast of characters they're looking at. Believe it or not, I actually met Tyrese over the weekend. (Yeah, it was a surreal night in Koreatown... but that's another story.)
I know some people horrified by the idea of a Jersey Shore-esque reality show featuring Asian Americans. Part of me is. But I'm also completely intrigued. Hey, K-town is full of unique, colorful people with plenty of TV trainwreck potential -- I'm surprised no one thought of this sooner. Honestly, I would totally watch this.
