This week in Los Angeles, up and coming indie rock band Research Society are playing a show El Cid in Silver Lake, bringing a little something they like to call "sci-fi soul," which incorporates elements of "90s era Manchester, grunge, U2, solo Morrissey, with a 21st century polish."
The show will include an opening performance from comedian Rasika Mathur, who will be playing songs from her upcoming comedy album The Sari (W)rap. They'll also be hosting a toy drive to benefit the Asian Pacific Women's Center of Los Angeles. It's happening Thursday, December 2. Here are some more details:

2010 was an amazing year in the life of RESEARCH SOCIETY! We played to our biggest crowds yet, made some new friends in the local music scene, and released our debut EP: BEST OF SEVEN. Come and celebrate this year's achievements with us at Silver Lake's legendary EL CID. Opening up for us is our longtime friend RASIKA MATHUR. Rasika, who has appeared on Comedy Central's "Children's Hospital" and Showtime's "Weeds", is performing in support of her hilarious new comedy album, "The Sari (W)rap", now for sale on iTunes. This might be our funniest show ever! Seriously. Tickets are $10, and the show starts promptly at 8:30pm.
We're also happy to support the ASIAN PACIFIC WOMEN'S CENTER of Los Angeles by hosting a toy drive. Bring an unwrapped toy and you'll be spreading some holiday cheer to kids and a worthy cause. APWC provides an environment sensitive to the cultural and language needs of Asian and Pacific Islander domestic violence survivors and their families.
