Golden Globe nominations were announced this morning. Not that I've ever had much respect for the Globes -- I think they're seriously bloated and overhyped -- but this year's nominees are particularly ridiculous, up and down the list. Especially the film categories. Seriously -- The Tourist? Red? Burlesque? Really?
The not-so-shocking news flash is that no Asians are nominated in any category. The best we can say is that, um, there were one or two Asian faces in Inception and The Social Network. Yay?
Television categories fared only slightly better. At least some shows loosely associated with Asians -- meaning, they actually feature Asian American actors in the cast -- got nominated, like Glee, Dexter, The Good Wife (okay, Archie Panjabi is British) and The Walking Dead.
Just trying to find the silver lining.
Across the board, this year's nominations are very, very white. I mean, even more than usual. In fact, in the acting categories, the only people of color nominated are: Halle Berry (Frankie & Alice), Idris Elba (Luther), Edgar Ramirez (Carlos) and Sofia Vergara (Modern Family). That's it, dude!
You can probably expect more of the same when the Oscar nominations roll around next month. You rock, Hollywood. To see the full list of Golden Globe Award nominees, go here.
