autopsy: alan lin died from drowning

Keep finding myself coming back to story... An update on Alan Lin, the UC Riverside student whose body was found floating in Newport Bay over the weekend. According to an autopsy conducted Monday, he apparently drowned, and his body showed no signs of trauma: Autopsy shows student drowned.

I didn't know him, but there's just something about Alan Lin's death that's been haunting me. Something about that smiling photo of him that accompanies all the news stories. What happened? Why was Alan's life cut short? He was popular, well-liked, and was on track to graduate from UC Riverside this spring:
UC Riverside officials Monday offered their condolences to Lin's friends and family.

"His opportunities and his promise have been cut short, and that is a tragic loss to the world," UC Riverside Vice Chancellor Jim Sandoval said in a written statement.

Lin had been attending the college since Fall 2006, officials said, and was on track to graduate this spring.

Family services for Lin have not been announced, UC Riverside officials said. The college will honor Lin during a memorial service held each May for members of the community who have died.
Investigators are still waiting for the results of toxicology tests, which can take up to twelve weeks. In the meantime, police are interviewing people who were at the bar on the night he went missing. More here: Drowned UCR student Alan Lin remembered as friendly, hardworking.
