16th annual chicago asian american showcase, april 1-14

Chicagoooo! Cinema lovers, it's that time of year again. The Foundation for Asian American Independent Media presents the 16th Annual Asian American Showcase, one of the midwest's premiere celebrations of Asian American art and culture -- including Asian American cinema. The showcase runs April 1-14 at the Gene Siskel Center.

The festival kicks off Friday night with the Opening Night screening of David Boyle's indie road movie Surrogate Valentine, with actor/musician Goh Nakamura in attendance. It's a cool little film about lonely, wacky ups and downs of a musician's life. The film screens again next week, April 4.

They've also got a stacked program of new and interesting features throughout the festival -- something for all tastes, including Deann Borshay Liem's In the Matter of Cha Jung Lee, Jeff Chiba Stearns' One Big Hapa Family, Miao Wang's Beijing Taxi, Helie Lee's Macho Like Me, Iris Shim's The House of Suh, Stephane Gauger's Saigon Electric and more.
