center for pacific asian family: april is sexual assault awareness month


April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. If you're in the Los Angeles area, the Center for Pacific Asian Family has two events planned for the month: a verbal and physical self-defense workshop at USC and a Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence/Language Bank training for folks who are interested in volunteering with us as interpreters. The self-defense workshop is open to anyone who is interested. (Please excuse the karate lady in the flyer above.) Here are some more details:

About the facilitator: Grayce Wei Liu is a community educator and volunteer with the Center for the Pacific Asian Family. She teaches a variety of classes to the public, including effective communication, conflict resolution, cultural competency, nonviolent parenting and self defense. Gracie also has a background in the combat system, Krav Maga, and has trained in self defense with the California Coalition Against Sexual Assault.

Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault + Language Interpretation Training

Help us provide immigrant families surviving abuse with equal access to resources by:

- Interpreting for our 24-hour crisis line over the phone
- Interpreting for clients’ meetings over the phone or in person
- Outreaching to ethnic communities on weekends and evenings
- Translating forms from home

Language interpretation activities are flexible and based on your availability

Training participants will be expected to volunteer with CPAF for a total of 20 hours

Enrollment is limited $10 materials fee* Lunch will be provided
*The materials fee is waived for members of Bread of Life Church
