sony pictures picks up joseph kahn's detention

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions has picked up the worldwide distribution rights to director Joseph Kahn's "apocalyptic, body-swapping, time-traveling teen romantic comedy" Detention: Sony Unit Acquires Josh Hutcherson-Dane Cook Film 'Detention.'

If you ask me, there just aren't enough apocalyptic, body-swapping, time-traveling teen romantic comedies playing at the cineplex these days. It's seriously under-appreciated as a genre. But all that will soon change. From the director that brought you Torque:
The movie, starring Josh Hutcherson, Dane Cook and Shanley Caswell and directed by Joseph Kahn, claimed the Youth Jury prize for best FutureWave Feature Film at the just-concluded Seattle International Film Festival. It concerns a group of students dealing with a slasher killer as they navigate their last year of high school.

Kahn co-wrote the film with Mark Palermo. It was produced by MaryAnn Tanedo and Richard Weager, with exec producers Robert Abramoff, Hutcherson, David Kang, Clayton Reaser and Vernon Reaser.
The funny thing is, every article I've read about this movie describes it as something different. Some call it a high school slasher, another article calls it sa sci-fi flick, while another article calls it a "time-travel comedy." The crazy thing is, maybe it's all those things. No release date is set yet, but I'm definitely curious to check this one out.
