So... remember that petition to
boycott Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy's upcoming public screening of
Breakfast at Tiffany's? I just wanted to note there's a poll at the bottom of this
Gothamist post about the protest, asking
"Is Breakfast at Tiffany's depiction of an Asian man racist?"
The Asian man in question, of course, is Mickey Rooney's infamous yellowface portrayal of the Mr. Yunioshi. As I write this, 60% have responded no. Sixty percent! Are we even talking about the same movie? People can actually watch
this scene and honestly say "No"?
I realize I probably shouldn't be looking for deep insight in online polls and comments. But damn. You're so awesome, America.
