angry reader of the week: andrew t. medina
Greetings, good citizens. It's time to meet another Angry Reader of the Week, spotlighting you, the very special readers of this website. Over the years, I've been able to connect with a lot of cool folks, and this is a way of showing some appreciation and attention to the people who help make this blog what it is. This week's Angry Reader is Andrew T. Medina.
Who are you?
Andrew T. Medina
What are you?
A progressive Pilipino American who is consistently late for everything.
Where are you?
I'm typing this up at The Weatherstone, my favorite coffee shop in Sacramento. You can usually find me here catching up on work, reading a good book, judging hipsters, and feeding my addiction to social media.
Where are you from?
I was a navy brat, but I spent most of my younger years in Yokosuka, Japan. To help people understand what this was like, a navy base is essentially an American town in a foreign country. I'm still searching for decent curry-pan in the States. Fun nerd fact: Mark Hamill graduated from my alma mater, Nile C. Kinnick High School.
What do you do?
I serve as the consultant for the California Asian & Pacific Islander (API) Legislative Caucus, which is chaired by Assemblymember Warren T. Furutani. The Caucus is made up of eleven Asian & Pacific Islander American (APIA) members of the California State Legislature. Established in 2001, the API Legislative Caucus aims to represent and advocate for the interests of the diverse APIA communities throughout California. Additionally, the Caucus seeks to increase APIA participation and representation in all levels of government. More about the caucus can be found here: www.assembly.ca.gov/apilegcaucus.
In my free time, I volunteer some of my time as the Institute Chair for the Sacramento Chapter of New Leaders Council (NLC). NLC trains young progressive political entrepreneurs, and it would be great if more APIAs participated in the program so apply to be a fellow at www.newleaderscouncil.org.
What are you all about?
I'm all about community empowerment and sustainability.
I'm also all about indie music. In the spirit of the blog, here are a couple of recommendations of bands with APIA members: Thao With the Get Down Stay Down, The Morning Benders, and The Pains of Being Pure of Heart.
