knife-wielding attacker killed in police shooting

Damn. Another crazy and tragic story... In San Francisco, police shot and killed a knife-wielding man after he stabbed his mother to death and wounded his father: S.F. cops kill man suspected of stabbing parents.

44-year-old Peter Woo apparently stabbed his mother in the upper body. She later died at the hospital. According to police, officers arrived at the scene and tried to help her, but when Woo charged at them while holding two knives, they were forced to shoot him:
The incident happened at a two-flat home at 634 and 636 Funston Ave. near Balboa St. at about 7:30 a.m., where officers responding to reports of a stabbing found a 78-year-old man "bleeding profusely" in the doorway, Lt. Troy Dangerfield said. The man, Dennis Woo, had been stabbed in the forearm and hands and was expected to survive.

At the top of the stairway, officers found Woo's wife, Nina Woo, 73, who had been stabbed in the upper body. She died later Monday at San Francisco General Hospital.

As the officers tried to pull her to safety, they were confronted in a hallway by the victims' 44-year-old son, Peter Woo, who held a knife in each hand above his hand and advanced toward the officers, police said.

Police fired a bean-bag weapon, a less-than-lethal device, to try to stop him, but it was ineffective, Dangerfield said.

An officer then shot Woo. He was taken to San Francisco General, where he died at 9:30 a.m., police said.
Woo's father had non-life threatening stab wounds and is expected to survive. The shooting is reportedly under investigation. What's extra crazy is that officers first tried to stun and subdue Woo with a non-lethal bean bag gun, but that didn't work, so they had to use lethal force.

I don't know what any of this was about, but it makes me pretty damn sad. More here: Two dead after stabbing and officer shooting in SF.
