Chick-fil-A cashier names customers "Ching" and "Chong"

UC Irvine students find racial slurs on their fast food receipts.

Several folks have sent this my way... If you need more reason not to like Chick-fil-A, check out this Tumblr post about some UC Irvine students' -- who happen to be Asian -- recent visit to the fast food chain.

Take a good look at those receipts. The cashier, identified as "Lia," did not ask for their names when she took their orders, but apparently took it upon herself to provide these Asian customers with names of her own invention:

So my friend is an RA here at UC Irvine and he went to Chik Fil-A with his residents. The cashier did NOT ask for their names, but when they got their receipts, this is what they said. If you know anything about UCI, you probably know that we have a reputation as being an Asian-dominant school. Fifty-three percent, actually. And while the victims of this act are indeed Asian, it shouldn’t matter. The fact that ignorant language like this is used to describe people is UNACCEPTABLE.

I'm sure the cashier thought she was being clever as hell with her racist little nicknames. According to the post, the student in question talked to the manager about what happened. I hope Lia's ass got fired on the spot. That's racist!

UPDATE: Chick-fil-A corporate public relations has released a formal statement responding to the incident, confirming that "Ching" and "Chong" did indeed happen and that the employee in question was "dismissed immediately": Chick-fil-A Responds to Racist Receipts in Orange County.

Please understand and accept our confirmation that the inappropriate, and unthinking behavior of a young team member at one of our restaurants does not support any claim or even suggestion of racism at our restaurant. The individual clearly violated our operating standards; the matter was addressed and discussed immediately with the guests on the spot; and a confirmation was provided that the employee was immediately dismissed for the individual behavior.

Our Chick-fil-A restaurant Operators and their employees try very hard every day to actually go the extra mile in serving ALL of our customers with honor, dignity and respect. The circumstances here are a simply case of immaturity, failed judgment, and human error….it has nothing to do with the service and operational standards of our Chick-fil-A restaurants which are consistently rated at the highest level of service in the foodservice industry."

Funny enough, the company has a campaign asking folks to share their stories about "unexpected" experiences as Chick-fil-A customers. Think you can top the story of "Ching" and "Chong"?
