colors of confinement: rare kodachrome photographs of japanese american incarceration in world war II
This awesome New York Times slideshow features stunning color photos by Bill Manbo, one of thousands of Japanese Americans who were incarcerated at Heart Mountain Relocation Center during World War II.
The photos were taken using Kodachrome film, which was a relatively new technology at the time. They're included in a new book of Bill Manbo's photos, Colors of Confinement: Rare Kodachrome Photographs of Japanese American Incarceration in World War II, edited by Eric L. Muller.
For a lot of us who are used to seeing images from this era in black and white, these photographs add an entirely different dimension to the realities of internment camp life. Some more photos:
