dreamers and deferred action: a community forum for undocumented youth and parents, july 11

Last month, President Obama announced a new policy allowing undocumented youth who meet certain criteria to apply for deferred action that would authorize them to seek work permits and to be safe from deportation.

To help Asian American and Pacific Islander DREAMers apply for deferred action, the Asian Pacific American Legal Center will host a community forum entitled "DREAMers and Deferred Action" -- believed to be the first-ever pan-Asian American and Pacific Islander DREAMer event in Los Angeles.

It's happening Wednesday, July 11, at the APALC Community Room in Los Angeles. Here's some more information:

The free forum, which is believed to be the first-ever pan-Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) DREAMer event in Los Angeles, is open only to DREAMers and their parents. Attorneys will provide information and details regarding the new deferred action policy, including: eligibility requirements, how to prepare to apply when the application process is announced in mid-August, and how to avoid potential fraud. The forum will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the APALC Community Room (1st Floor) located at 1145 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90017.

The community forum is co-sponsored by several community organizations, including: API-Equality LA, DREAM Team LA, Korean Resource Center, Koreatown Immigrant Workers Alliance, K.W. Lee Center for Leadership, Search to Involve Pilipino Americans, Southeast Asian Community Alliance, Thai Community Development Center, UCLA Labor Center, and United We Dream.
