sonya thomas beats her own hot dog eating record

The "Black Widow" does it again! Each year, we celebrate our nation's freedom... to eat as much as possible at Nathan's Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest: 'Black Widow' Sonya Thomas wins 2012 Nathan's hot dog eating contest women's competition.

See that photo above? If you couldn't tell, that's the face of a winner.

Reigning champion Sonya Thomas bested all challengers by beating her own record, scarfing down 45 hot dogs and buns in ten minutes to win this year's women's competition at Coney Island. Ms. Thomas, by the way, is 5-foot-5 and weighs 105 pounds:
She'll take home $10,000 for her trouble. Her previous record was 41 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes.

"I do train for the speed, so I just [speed-eat] for about one or two minutes," the 5-foot-5-inch, 105-pound Thomas told Zap2it ahead of the competition. "For the volume, I try to get [my stomach] expanded, but it's so hard. And I try to eat like 50 hot dogs and buns in 10 or 12 minutes. So if I can get my body expanded to 45 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes, maybe I can do it."

This latest title is just the latest addition to Thomas' eating awards. She also has championship baubles for eating oysters (47 dozen in eight minutes), crawfish (3.25 pounds in 10 minutes), clams (26 dozen in six minutes) and cheesecake (11 pounds in nine minutes).
Well, I guess we all have a calling. I think I say this every year, but I always mean it: congratulations, Sonya. You won... but did you really win? Something tells me your digestive system tells different tales. Hope it was worth it! More here: Sonya Thomas wins hot dog eating contest with 45, beats her own record.
