internship opportunity: empower you(th), api equality-la's student civic engagement internship

Heads up, internship seekers in Los Angeles...

API Equality-LA, civil rights organization that organizes in the API community for LGBT equality, is currently looking six qualified college students for its EMPOWER YOU(TH) Student Civic Engagement Internship.

As a part of this program, you'll be working to make sure that API students are out at the polls this November and voting for progressive issues. Make an impact, and make your voices heard. Here are some more details about the internship:
API Equality-LA is leading a paid 12-week student civic engagement internship beginning at the end of this month, from Tuesday, August 28, 2012 (with a kick-off all-day APALC training with other progressive organizations doing civil engagement work) to Tuesday, November 13, 2012 (one week after election day). We plan to get six interns from three campuses (campuses will be chosen depending on applicants). These six interns will participate in a training with API Equality-LA, APALC, and other progressive API organizations from across LA, receive mentorship and guidance from API Equality-LA staff, as well as the chance to craft and execute their own campaign plans for their specific campuses. The purpose of the internship is to make sure that API students are out in number this November and voting for progressive issues. Students had made a giant impact in 2008, and we need to make sure their voices are impacting this November's election as well. While there aren't any specifically LGBT ballot measures on this year's ballot, social justice is a movement that requires the work of folks from across communities, identities, and issues, and this internship provides student leaders the opportunity, skills, and resources to do just that. It's a really amazing opportunity for API Equality-LA to work and empower students, and we really want to make sure that students know about this internship.
This is a paid, 12-week internship beginning next month. But you have to act fast -- the application deadline is coming up on August 21. For further information about EMPOWER YOU(TH), go to the API Equality LA website.
