lee & low books new visions award for young writers

Tu Books, the fantasy, science fiction and mystery imprint of Lee & Low Books, recently announced the establishments of its first annual New Visions Award, to be given for a middle grade or young adult fantasy, science fiction, or mystery novel by a writer of color.

The award winner will receive a cash grant of $1000 and a standard publication contract with Tu Books, including a basic advance and royalties for a first time author. An Honor Award winner will receive a cash grant of $500. Here's some more information about the award:
The New Visions Award was established to help more authors of color break into publishing and begin long, successful careers, while also bringing more diverse stories to speculative fiction.

The award is modeled after Lee & Low's successful New Voices Award, which was established in 2000 and is given annually to a picture book written by an unpublished author of color. Since it was started, the New Voices Award has led to the publication of several award-winning picture books, including Bird and Sixteen Years in Sixteen Seconds.

Please help us spread the word about the New Visions Award by passing this along to anyone you know who might be interested, and feel free to contact us with any questions. We look forward to reading the first batch of submissions!
The manuscript submission deadline is October 30, 2012. For further information, including the full submissions guidelines, go to the Lee & Low Books website here.
