Angry Reader of the Week: Philip Wang
What's up? It is time for another edition of the Angry Reader of the Week, spotlighting you, the very special readers of this website. Over the years, I've been able to connect with a lot of cool folks, and this is a way of showing some appreciation and attention to the people who help make this blog what it is. This week's Angry Reader is Philip Wang of Wong Fu Productions.
Who are you?
My name is Philip Wang. I'm part of the production group Wong Fu Productions. We have this video thing on that youtube website.
What are you?
I'm a guy who had some thoughts and stories, and somehow figured out how to put them on paper, and somehow figured out how to put those words into script format, then turn the words into actions, then into a video. Those videos seemed to resonate with people, so now I continue to make those videos. I think I'm just a thinker?
Where are you?
Not quite there yet, but in a good place.
Where are you from?
Northern CA, east bay. A nice little suburb, very American and I love it.
What do you do?
I love this question. Hardest to explain to strangers at those wedding tables...
"Umm... I make videos, online videos. I have this err, youtube channel and people watch our videos there."
"You can make a living off that??"
"Well, you hafta be a little creative, make a lot of sacrifices, and work your ass off.. but yes."
I guess if I was trying to sound professional for one reason or another... "I'm a co-founder of a creative media production company." Ugh that sounds actually more vague, and invites more questions. I'd rather leave ppl wondering what the hell I do. ;P
Ultimately.. I tell stories and share experiences with people. I'm very lucky and grateful that people are willing to listen to the stories and partake in the experiences with or through me.
What are you all about?
Such a simple question... but incredibly difficult to answer... Lemme look at how past "readers of the week" answered, brb.
ok...
stream of conscious i'm about...
legos, nerf, watermelon, love, self reflection, youtube, good buzzes, journaling, nostalgia, hindsight, striving for foresight, animaniacs, batman the animated series, halo,
serious doe?
I tend to write a lot about relationships, so I suppose I think about that a lot. I think everyone does though, a lot... I just happen to structure those thoughts into scripts and lines and sequences of events. And I look back, probably more than I should...but it's always for the purpose of improving for the future.
I also care a lot about the Asian American community. That's why Wong Fu continues to work so hard on ISAtv. That's a whole other article though...
What makes you angry?
Flakes. I really can't stand it when when ppl flake last minute.
I also can't stand fakes. Being in LA, the whole "fake it til you make it" mentality really bugs me. The line should be "work really hard, and people will notice it without you having to say anything and they'll respect you for it." But that doesn't rhyme hmm..
