Angry Reader of the Week: Michael Kang
All right! It's that time again. Gather 'round because it's time to meet the Angry Reader of the Week, spotlighting you, the very special readers of this website. Over the years, I've been able to connect with a lot of cool folks, and this is a way of showing some appreciation and attention to the people who help make this blog what it is. This week's Angry Reader is Michael Kang.
Who are you?
My name is Michael Kang and I guilt tripped my way into getting featured this week.
What are you?
I am a father and a filmmaker. An introvert by nature. I am much more exciting and funny on paper than in practice. I used to be good with faces but bad with names. Now I'm bad at both. I wish everyone would just wear name tags.
Where are you?
I just recently moved back to L.A. after a four-year tour of duty in the suburbs of D.C. It's so good to have restaurants that aren't chains, stores that aren't big box and friends that aren't lawyers around again.
Where are you from?
I grew up in Providence, R.I. but I spent most of my adult life in NYC. I like to think of myself as a New Yorker but I'm really a New England boy at heart (though I don't follow any sports so I feel no allegiance to the Sox, Bruins, Celtics or Patriots). I guess I just like lobster and snow a lot.
What do you do?
I am a filmmaker which I am now realizing is becoming an antiquated title like cavalryman. But I actually did start out shooting on film -- Super8, 16mm and 35mm. My first two features were shot on 35mm. But I guess the safer title would be that I am a storyteller. I make narrative moving pictures. I love collaborating with a team of people to create a story.
What are you all about?
Right now, I am all about re-acclimating to L.A. and reconnecting with friends. I'm also about trying hard not to screw up my children too badly.
What makes you angry?
In comparison to how angry I was when I was in my 20s and 30s, not very much makes me angry. More things make me sad or really scared for the future. But if one thing truly pisses me off it's when people don't use their turn signals or give the "hey, I screwed up" apologetic wave when they cut me off.
