Angry Reader of the Week: Teresa Lo

Hey, everybody. Let's kick off the new year with 2013's very first Angry Reader of the Week, spotlighting you, the very special readers of this website. Over the years, I've been able to connect with a lot of cool folks, and this is a way of showing some appreciation and attention to the people who help make this blog what it is. This week's Angry Reader is Teresa Lo.

Who are you?

My name is Teresa Lo, and I'm a writer. I'm the author of the YA horror novel, Hell's Game, and the Asian-American erotic series, The Red Lantern Scandals. I also blog about self-publishing, social media, and pop culture at www.tloclub.com.

What are you?

I'm a Chinese-American woman, a Midwesterner who now lives in California, a crazy cat lady, an introvert, a storyteller, a teacher, and an internet addict.

Where are you?

I reside in Los Angeles, but when I'm not in LA, I can be found in Lawrence, Kansas or Kansas City.

Where are you from?

I grew up in a small town in Kansas called Coffeyville. The town had a population of approximately 10,000, and its claim to fame was the Dalton Gang and the annual Interstate Fair and Rodeo.

What do you do?

I teach language arts and math to elementary students by day, and at night, I'm an author. I recently wrote an Asian-American erotic series, The Red Lantern Scandals, and I'm happy to say each volume is currently on the Amazon Top 100 Bestselling Asian-American Literature list.

What are you all about?

I want the world to be a respectful place, where people are judged on their actions, not on their gender, sexuality, race, or anything else beyond their control. When I create, I think about what message I'm putting out into the world, and it's my goal to make a positive impact, especially on young girls.

What makes you angry?

Growing up Chinese-American in Kansas, I encountered a large amount of racism, but my life experience taught me to distinguish the difference between ignorance and actual hatred. I believe we can fix ignorance through education, but what makes me angry are people who try to justify their bigotry when they are called out. I believe in forgiveness if someone makes a mistake and accidentally offends, but if someone wants to preach their hate, then of course, I'm going to get angry and that's when I'm going to put up a fight.
