Constance Wu and Randall Park cast in 'Fresh Off The Boat'

Based on Eddie Huang's memoir, ABC comedy pilot will focus on Chinese family in 1990s Orlando

Glad this news finally broke... As you may have heard, plans are underway to adapt chef/restaurateur/food personality Eddie Huang's memoir Fresh Off The Boat into a sitcom for ABC. I am pleased to share that they've found the actors to play Eddie's Chinese immigrant parents: Randall Park and Constance Wu.

The single-camera comedy pilot, written and executive produced by Nahnatchka Khan, is set in the 1990s and revolves around hip hop-obsessed 12-year-old Eddie Huang and his Chinese family, who move into the culture shock of suburban Orlando.

Based on Eddie Huang's memoir, it is set in the 1990s and revolves around a Chinese family that moves to suburban Orlando. It centers on hip-hop-loving Eddie Huang, raised by an immigrant father (Park) who is obsessed with all things American and an immigrant mother (Wu) who is often bewildered by white culture. Mrs. Huang is no-nonsense pragmatic woman who believes in tough love. Wu, repped by Talentworks and Generate, starred in the Amazon comedy pilot Browsers and will next be seen in Fox Digital's Parallels and feature Electric Slide. Park, repped by Talent Works and Principato Young, recurred as Danny Chung in HBO's Veep and will next be seen in Seth Rogen's The Interview.
While I'm not too familiar with Constance Wu's work, Randall is a good friend and an immense talent, so I'm ecstatic to see him on board this project. Now they just have to find the right boys to play Eddie and his brothers.

High hopes, fingers crossed.
