Robert Lopez is the first Filipino American to win an Oscar

Academy Award for Best Original Song gives him the EGOT

Congratulations to songwriters Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez, who won an Oscar for Best Original Song for "Let It Go," the hit single from the animated feature Frozen, at Sunday night's 86th Academy Awards. The big win apparently makes Lopez the first Filipino American to win an Oscar.

Makes some more room on the mantel. The win also gives Lopez rare membership in the club known as EGOT -- Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony -- adding an Oscar to his bulging trophy collection. Lopez has Tonys for The Book of Mormon and Avenue Q, an Emmy for Nickelodeon's The Wonder Pets and the musical theater album Grammy for Book of Mormon.

In their heartfelt acceptance speech, the husband-and-wife team thanked their children:
"Our girls, Katie and Annie, our song is inspired by our love for you in the hope that you never let fear and shame keep you from celebrating the unique people that you are. Thank you, we love you," Anderson-Lopez said.
"Let It Go" was up against some pretty stiff competition in a category that included "Happy" from Despicable Me 2, "The Moon Song" from Her, and "Ordinary Love" from Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.

But it was the heavy favorite to win. Heck, I haven't even seen Frozen but I would have put money on "Let It Go" to take home that Oscar. If you've spent any time on the internet in the last three months, you've probably stumbled on someone's cover of the song. I assume this means we'll be hearing a lot more of it.
